BEIJING (ASIA METALS) 2022-09-22 Korea’s aluminum scrap imports in May 2022 amounted to 95,743.50 metric tons, compared to 86,334.75 metric tons in the same month last year and 94,407.50 metric tons in the previous month, an increase of 10.90% year-on-year and 1.42% sequentially.
Korea’s aluminum scrap imports in May 2022 amounted to $218,211,000.00, compared to $142,268,000.00 in the same month last year and $204,742,000.00 in the previous month, an increase of 53.38% year-on-year and 6.58% sequentially. The average import price was US$2,279.12/metric ton, compared with US$1,647.86/metric ton a year ago and US$2,168.70/metric ton last month.
From January to May 2022, South Korea imported a total of 452,875.39 metric tons of aluminum scrap, compared with 438,773.62 metric tons in the same period last year, an increase of 3.21%.
In May 2022, the top three import sources of aluminum scrap in South Korea were the United States, Thailand and Taiwan, China.
South Korea imported 22,879.46 metric tons of aluminum scrap from the United States, compared with 19,572.94 metric tons in the same period last year and 25,575.18 metric tons in the previous month, an increase of 16.89% year-on-year and a decrease of 10.54% from a year earlier. The average import price was US$2,056.74 per metric ton, compared with US$1,580.91 per metric ton in the same period last year and US$1,988.96 per metric ton in the previous month, an increase of 30.10% year-on-year and an increase of 3.40% YoY.
Korea imported 12,813.86 metric tons of aluminum scrap from Thailand, compared with 6,297.90 metric tons in the same period last year and 12,743.88 metric tons in the previous month, an increase of 103.46% year-on-year and 0.55% sequentially. The average import price was US$2,471.78/metric ton, compared with US$1,810.44/metric ton in the same period last year and US$2,336.34/metric ton in the previous month, an increase of 36.53% year-on-year and 5.80% YoY.
Korea imported 8,605.46 metric tons of aluminum scrap from Taiwan, compared with 3,910.72 metric tons in the same period last year and 7,677.83 metric tons in the previous month, an increase of 120.05% year-on-year and 12.08% YoY. The average import price was US$2,231.49/MT, compared with US$1,618.88/MT in the same period last year and US$2,174.44/MT in the previous month, an increase of 37.84% year-on-year and 2.63% quarter-on-quarter.
